- Pena’s morning slot is the most booked one. A tour has it, and you skip the 434 queue and the shuttle line.

What to change if
- It is your first time in Sintra
- Shape 1, Pena and Regaleira. It is the day most people mean by Sintra, and the two estates are the two that reward a ticket.
- You have seen Pena already
- Skip it. Regaleira in the morning, the old town for lunch, then the castle for the walls or bus 1253 to the cape and Azenhas do Mar.
- You are with kids
- One palace, and the shuttle at Pena both ways. The tours with a children’s rate and child seats are compared on the with-kids page.
- The Pena slot you want is gone
- Take the afternoon one and do the second site first, or book a tour: the operator holds the slot for the group.
- You have two days
- Then four sites is fine: Pena and the castle on the hill day, Regaleira and Monserrate on the town day, and the coast at the end of whichever has the better sky.
Questions
Can I see all the palaces in one day?
Not properly. Three interiors is the limit, and it takes a private tour that holds the three tickets and drives between the gates; six of them do Pena, Regaleira and the castle, and they are compared on their own page. Four palaces means seeing two from the car.
Is one day enough for Sintra?
For two sites, yes, and comfortably: Pena needs two and a half hours, Regaleira ninety minutes, the castle an hour, and the old town an hour for lunch. It is the third and fourth site that turn the day into a queue.
Tour or on my own?
On your own if you can get the Pena slot you want and you are happy with three bus rides. A tour if the slot is gone, if you have kids or a bad knee, or if you want a guide inside: the tours hold the tickets and do the joins, for €79 to €120 per adult with the tickets in the price.
Can I start in Sintra instead of Lisbon?
Yes. Eight tours meet at Sintra station or in the old town, for train arrivals, and the day on your own starts at the station anyway: the 434 and the 1253 leave from outside it.
