“Pick up & Drop off in Lisbon” is a private day of 6 to 8 hours from €70 per person for a party of 1 to 15, with no tickets in the price. The itinerary lists Pena for 120 minutes, the castle 60 and Regaleira 120, plus the National Palace 30, the old town 30 and Cabo da Roca 60, and the listing says plainly that a typical day is one or two of them inside and the rest from outside. To do all three inside, say so at booking and buy the three tickets ahead.

Before choosing a three-site day

Is three sites in one day too much?

It is the longest day Sintra offers: about five hours inside the three sites, plus the drives, lunch and the gates. A private tour makes it work by holding the tickets and driving between the three gates. Van Go and Sintra Lovers run it as a fixed route; SWINGO, The Host and Sintra-Lisbon tours let you name the three. On your own, with bus 434 and three slots to hit, we would do two and keep the castle for a second visit.

Which order?

Van Go starts at Pena, drops to the castle, lunches in the old town and ends at Regaleira; Sintra Lovers does Pena, the castle, the old town and Regaleira before the coast. It is the natural order: the castle gate is a ten-minute walk below Pena’s, and Regaleira is in the town. Only Pena has a timed slot to hit; the castle has none, and Regaleira gives an hour of grace after the printed time.

Three tickets: what do they cost?

€52 for an adult: Pena’s Essential ticket €20, the castle €12, Regaleira €20. Pena and the castle are sold by Parques de Sintra, with 5% off when you buy both in one purchase; Regaleira has its own ticket office. Van Go’s all-tickets option puts the three in the price; SWINGO and Sintra-Lisbon tours hold Pena and Regaleira and leave the castle to the gate, where it rarely sells out.

Why is there no shared tour?

Because no shared van from Lisbon visits all three. The one that walks the castle, Hikesiders, skips Regaleira; the ones that do Pena and Regaleira, Portuguese For a Day and Tugatrips, drive past the castle. Six private tours do the three, and all six are here.

Going independently

All three on your own? Possible, and a long day.

The return train from Rossio and the three adult tickets come to €57.10 before the bus. Book Pena’s first slot, walk down to the castle, which has no slot, take bus 434 to the old town for lunch and give Regaleira a 15:00 or 16:00 slot: its hour of grace is your margin. Count seven hours on the hill.

The 434/435 pass covers the station, the castle gate and Pena for €13.50; Regaleira is a 15-minute walk from the station and 10 from the centre. If one of the three has to go, make it the castle: its walls are the view, and Pena’s terraces give you most of it.
