Before booking a private tour
How much does a private Sintra tour cost?
From €65.33 per person for a 6-to-8-hour day with tickets extra, to €135 with two monuments’ tickets in the price. These tours are priced per person, not per car: a couple pays twice the figure, a family of four pays four times. Check the minimum too; several need 2 or 3 people.
Does a private guide go inside Pena with us?
Not always. A driver-guide drives and talks on the road. Picta Travel and LRS say the guide goes inside; No Map Tours escorts you in at the first slot; Sintra Lovers says the guide stays outside. Read the option text before you book.
Private or small group?
Private wins on the route and the clock: you pick the stops and the pickup time. A shared group of 8 with the Pena ticket costs from €79 per person; the cheapest private day with the ticket is €87.99. For two people the difference is small. For a family it is a whole car for the price of the group tour.
Can we change the route on the day?
On the flexible tours, yes: Picta, The Host Experiences and Jump in tours build the day with you. No Map Tours runs a fixed route and says so. Pena runs timed entry, so once a slot is booked that hour stays fixed.
Going independently
Two of you? Compare with the train.
A private day for two costs from €130 to €270 for the pair. The train and a Pena ticket cost €25.10 each, with the palace slot booked by you and no car between the sights.
The direct train takes 40 minutes. Bus 434 links the station with the palaces; the 434/435 pass costs €13.50 for 24 hours.
