Before choosing a guided Pena tour

What does “guide inside” mean?

The guide walks the palace route with you and explains the rooms; the visit takes 45 to 60 minutes on a one-way path. Most tours stop at the door: the guide covers the park and terraces and you see the rooms on your own. Both are honest; the listings say which.

Which tours say the guide stays outside?

Inside Lisbon guides the exterior; Ó turista, Hikesiders and Local In Lisbon leave the rooms self-guided; Cooltour gives free time inside; Sintra Lovers and Mr. Local wait at the entrance. They are on the other pages, not here.

Is there an official guided visit at Pena?

Yes. Parques de Sintra sells its own guided visit of the palace at €75 per adult, against €20 for the Essential ticket. A tour with the guide inside costs less than that on top of the transport.

Does a guide inside change the ticket?

No. Every tour here uses the Essential ticket, the rooms of the new wing, the terraces and the park. The guide adds explanation, not extra rooms; the €45 Full Tour with the private apartments is a separate official product.

Going independently

Only Pena with the official guide?

The return train from Rossio and Parques de Sintra’s own guided visit come to €80.10: a guide inside the palace without the van, the coast or the second palace.

The direct train takes 40 minutes; bus 434 links the station with the palace gate, the 434/435 pass is €13.50 for 24 hours.
