Do children pay for Pena Palace?
Under 6, no. From 6 to 17 the Essential ticket is €18 instead of €20, and a family ticket for two adults and two children is €65. The park-only ticket is €10 for ages 6 to 17. Tours with the ticket in the price charge their own children’s rate instead.
Does a stroller work at Pena?
The park paths are steep and the palace terraces are cobbled. From the gate it is a 20-minute uphill walk or the €4.50 shuttle, free for children under 6. Inside the palace the route has stairs. A carrier is easier than a pushchair; the tours that take strollers on board still leave you carrying it on the hill.
Are child seats provided?
Every tour on this page lists child seats on request, and two say they are mandatory up to age 11 or 12, so give the child’s age when you book. Picta Travel charges €10 per seat; the others include it.
How long is too long?
Full days run 8 to 9 hours with 120 minutes at Pena. For children under 5, the 5-hour trips and the private days work better: one palace, a nap in the car, and no waiting for a group. The tours above show the minutes at each stop so you can judge.
Going independently
Going by train with kids
The return train from Rossio and an adult Essential ticket come to €25.10; children under 6 enter Pena free and pay €18 from 6 to 17. Book the palace slot online and take the train that arrives an hour before it.
The direct train takes 40 minutes. Bus 434 links the station with the palace gate; the 434/435 pass costs €13.50 for 24 hours.
