Family tickets cover members of the same household, with proof of age required for reduced prices. The guided visit lasts 1.5 hours? in Portuguese or English, with sessions chosen through its booking calendar. The guided route is not wheelchair accessible?.

A separate €38.96 individual ticket? combines Monserrate with Biester and includes 24 hours on buses 434 and 435?. It’s worth considering if you want both estates and those buses.

The standard checkout also offers the bus pass as a €10.96 add-on? for a visit without the Biester bundle. Our Monserrate visiting guide covers the gardens and rooms themselves.

Visit the palace before the park closes

If you arrive late, the palace takes priority because tickets for the building are sold only until 17:00?. The park stays open later.

Area Opens Closes Last entry
Park 09:00? 19:00? 18:00?
Palace 09:30? 18:00? 17:30?

The published daily timetable has no seasonal split?, though the hours change on 11 November 2026: last entry is 13:00 and closing is 14:00?.

Monserrate closes on 24 and 25 December, 31 December and 1 January?. The official notices are worth checking before you travel.

Buy direct online or at the gate

The €12 standard ticket? is sold at the monument and through bilheteira.parquesdesintra.pt, the official ticket office online. Other commercial ticket websites are resellers.

Buying online avoids the ticket office queue? and gives you one entry on the date you choose. At the gate, the staffed office closes from 12:00 to 13:00?, when the ticket machine remains available.

Combine Parques de Sintra sites for a discount

The discount starts at 5% for 2 sites bought together? in the same Parques de Sintra purchase. That rises to 6% for 3 sites?, 7% for 4?, 8% for 5? and 10% for 6?.

Pena and Monserrate fit a full day if you arrange transport between the hill and Monserrate. I would book Pena’s timed entry first and keep Monserrate as my flexible stop for that day.

Monserrate is about 3.5 km from town towards Colares?, on the same road and bus 1253? as Quinta da Regaleira. Regaleira has its own ticket, outside the Parques de Sintra discount, because it is managed by Fundação Cultursintra?.

Residents in Portugal enter free on Sundays and national public holidays? through tickets collected from the staffed office. You need a Portuguese Citizen Card, or identification plus accepted residence documentation, to collect this ticket. The machine can’t issue it.

Visitors with a disability receive 50% off? with supporting documentation and can bring a companion free of charge.

The palace stays open during the roof works

Roof restoration is scheduled through the first quarter of 2027?, with scaffolding and a temporary covering around the palace. The building remains open.

I would postpone a visit if my main aim were an unobstructed photograph of the facade.

An extraordinary closure because of wind or a storm allows you to request a refund by sending the ticket and invoice to info@parquesdesintra.pt?.

For an ordinary change of plan, you can move online tickets until 18:00 on the previous day?, within 365 days of the original visit date?. You can’t reschedule tickets bought at the gate or machine.

Buy Monserrate admission separately from a day trip

Six private tours? in our selections include Monserrate among the possible stops on a day with transport. None includes its admission ticket.

SWINGO by Avenidas treats Monserrate as a suggested monument, while Sintra Lovers makes the visit optional. Flamingo Experiences passes outside on its shared jeep tour.

If you want transport and a flexible itinerary, you need to agree on Monserrate before booking a private day. For a visit here alone, you can buy the monument ticket yourself.

I've lived in Cascais for three years and fell for Portugal, Sintra most of all. This site is where I share it. I checked the figures against Parques de Sintra; the advice on which ticket to buy and which visits to combine is my judgement.
